The Houses of Azenha do Rio (River Watermill) are set amid the lush green landscape of a typical Minho estate. They have been carefully restored to preserve their original appearance while endowing them with modern comforts.

Two-storey houses built of granite are commonly found in the region, with the stone walls serving to insulate against both heat and cold. The ground floor was typically used to support farming activities and the upper floor for dwelling space. Another notable feature of such properties is the irrigation pond, also made of granite.

The Houses of Azenha do Rio offer a quiet family atmosphere. Within the property, guests can relax by the swimming pool, enjoy the gardens or stroll along the paths in a pleasant walk next to the banks of the Cávado River, where the watermill is located.

Our father, the mentor of this project, used his exceptional knowledge of the property’s history to ensure that no original detail was left out in the renovation process. When it was finished, he was so pleased by the result that he abandoned the original rural tourism project and moved into the main house.
